Objectives
• To help students extract main ideas and information from the dialogues.
• To give students practice listening to varying numbers of speakers in different contexts.
• Word knowledge to facilitate listening comprehension and thus acquire new vocabulary.
• To help students develop essential listening skills: Listening for key words,details,attitudes and information.
Activity
There are three main topics: People, Places and Things, students must do all of the activities listed below that are the same for each topic.At the end there is a vocabulary review and a “Wrap It Up” section.
• Prepare students by asking questions concerning the subject, abiding by the picture or previous knowledge on the issue.
• Students make a vocabulary activities and predictions on the subject to have some background on what they are going to listen.
• Check students comprehension by multiple choice exercises,and vocabulary definitions as well as some infering questions
• Ask personal opinion related to the listening issue.
• At the end make students develop the vocabulary exercises,filling the blanks, using words in context and “word family” exercises to develop the comprehension and the use of this words in different contexts ,as well as True and False exercises
• In the “Wrap it Up” section there is a email to be filled by the students using some contextual vocabulary words on the topics treated and some questions on another pre listening activity.
• Make students do another comprehension activity by multiple choice exercises and make them answer some personal opinion questions on the issue.
Strategies
• Recall students attention by asking questions related to the topic before listening.
• Recall their attention by asking personal opinions on previous experiences they had or on personal taste.
